So this morning Kyle knew he was going to school and he was OK with it. There was no whining, no crying. We got in the car. He was cool, calm and collected.
I asked if he would draw me a picture and he said, " yeah Mom I draw a pogo stick"
I asked if he was excited to see his friends and he said "Yeah Mum, I hang with the guys"
I asked: What are your friends names he answered "The Guys Mum. and Nicholas"
I have heard Nicholas' name a few times from him so I am thinking he has his first official little school friend =)
When we got to school he went in with no hesitation. Got his name/picture ticket to go into class, and then got a little timid. "You come with me Mum"
Then I hear another little voice say "Look Dad its my friend" It was Nicholas! They really are little friends...so cute!
Miss.Peggy opened the door for school and Nicholas told his Dad "I am going in by myself Dad" Nicholas doesn't know it, but he was my little angel. I told Kyle "Go in with Nicholas! Go on." He did!! Kyle followed Nicholas into class and turned to me and waved!
I know, huge win!! I really wanted to give him a big hug and kiss good-bye but he was doing so well I didn't want to do anything to mess it up.
Hailey and I went on our way. I had a grip! I didn't lose my keys, or forget a diaper or feel flustered.
Then we had to pick Kyle up. Like every other day as soon as he saw me he began to cry and yell "You don't leave me! You don't go in the car without me." Like the other days he also hit me and pushed me. Now my instinct is to stop in my tracks, drop to my knees and address him right away but there is a line of other parents behind me trying to get to there children. Well, today the teach actually picked him up and told him, calmly "oh no no, you don't hit your mommy" His teacher assured me he had a GREAT day, and that he really does just do this for show. As soon as I got into the hallway that did not echo, I went to my knees to talk to him and address his hitting me.
I know it will get better eventually, but I don't want his teachers to think I am unfit or that I think his hitting and yelling at me is acceptable. I don't know why I get so intimidated when it comes to disciplining my children in public. I do address it, I just address it out of the way of my fellow parents.
I sure hope his anger at pick up fades sooner rather than later. On the bright side Kyle did make me a picture, and it was of a pogo stick. AND in class today they read a book about helping others and when Kyle was asked what could he do to be helpful to Mom and Dad he answered "Play with Hailey and be good" =)
