If there is one thing my babies have taught me its that I have to follow thru with my word. For instance when we were at the museum last week Kyle acted up (humiliated me). He hit me and I told him to sit in a time out. He got up, I told him if he misbehaves again we were leaving. As soon as the words came flying out of my mouth I wanted to grab a line and reel them back in as fast as I could, but of course I couldn't. What happened?? Kyle KICKED me! Yeah, he kicked me! So we put on our coats, despite his screaming torturous, attention seeking fake screech of a cry and left. I felt so badly suddenly taking off on my cousin, but I said it I had to follow through.
Kyle has been begging for a Chuggington toy. One night when he drove Jason to near madness he yelled "Alright I'll get you a chuggngton toy!!" What Jay did not realize is how well our son retains information and that I would make him follow through with his word.
I know its not always easy, and not always fun. However, I also know if you say it you do it. I can think of a few examples where I was told something and did not see any follow thru...it can hurt. Sure, I will let my kids down from time to time. Whether it be a punishment or a promise I will do my best to follow thru with my word, and make Jase do it too.
