Pukey Pukies

In case you were confused by the title, we've been sick.  Not something fun, cute or exciting to write about; but even in the sick and tired moments there are memorable ones.

Approximately 1:30 am Thursday morning Jason and I woke up to Kyle coughing, and well, "getting sick".  It was awful and it was everywhere. Jason changed the sheets, and I cleaned up my sick baby boy. Of course now the family was up, and to our dismay quite awake.  So we turned on Little Einsteins to ease and calm the kiddos and all seemed well. Until, 30 minutes later when Kyle got sick again....everywhere! BUT there was a cutie moment.  Kyle looked at me with his bright blue eyes and said "I'm sorry Mama. Kyle's in trouble.  I made a messy mess."  Of course I just hugged and kissed him and told him he was not in trouble, and we would clean the messy mess.  I just couldn't understand why he did not like the thought of using the bucket.  After round 2 of cleaning and changing Kyle and the sheets I prayed all was well.  Wouldn't you know, just as Kyle and Hailey were falling back to sleep again he got sick AGAIN.  Only this time I put bubbles in the bucket.  Guess what?  It worked!

Needless to say it was a rather sleepless night.  The bright side, after 6:30 his pukey pukies were done =).
After 48 hours of no sickness and 7 loads of laundry I though we were in the clear....but NO!

Poor Hailey Bug.. Around 4:30am Saturday morning we all woke up to her coughing and "getting sick", everywhere. Kyle looked at his little sister and said "Mama Hailey's sick." and then he followed us into her room where we cleaned her up.  Kyle watched over her like the amazing big brother he is.  When she cried for a binky he ran into the other room and brought her back her favorite one.

With fresh sheets, fresh jammies, and a bubble bucket bedside we all tried to go back to bed. Then Kyle looked at me and said "oh no Mama I am sick".  I put the bubble bucket in front of him and he pretended to cough into it and then he looked at me with his baby blues and said "oh so close Mama". However, his faking taught Hailey exactly what to do the next time she got sick.  And, on a side note I know this will sound strange but she looked so adorable.  Not that it is adorable to be sick, but there she was in her onesie pajamas (which she never wears) where you could see how her tiny body still didn't quite fit into them.  Her face so delicate and pale, with lips red like snow white.  Her hair pulled back just so, and her little self baring all trust in me.  The arms I held her in, the chest she leaned against, the fingers that tickled her back, and the whispers in her ear telling her "I love you.  You are OK.  Good girl."

After a few hours in the clear, and the day beginning Hailey and Kyle got a bath (for rather obvious reasons).  Hailey was a princess and refused to get dressed.  She only wanted to wear pajamas.  Of course, her wish was my command.

Jason went to Dunkin'Donuts and brought home Munchkins per request of the children.  Hailey ate a few and asked for some cereal.  She didn't eat much but I thought," great she must be feeling better I am going to take a shower."  I was a little nervous because Jay was up on the roof shoveling off the snow, but I would only be a few minutes. Just as I finishes rinsing my hair Kyle came speeding in and said "Mama Hailey so sick, she made a messy mess".  With a towel wrapped around me I rushed to my room where I found my little girl calmly laying with chocolate goop on and all around her.  Off to the tubby (take 2) she went where chocolate goop somehow found its way everywhere: the floor, me, the walls.  After she was cleaned up again, I cleaned myself again and began another day of laundry.  7 loads here at home and 2 at the laundromat to clean the comforters.

At this point I, myself really do not feel well.  I was getting the chills and my stomach was crampy. BUT, I needed to wash our 2 comforters   Wouldn't you know a little girl "got sick" right at my feet.  ARGH!  I took off to Marshalls to spend my time and a little money.  I got back to the laundromat at the perfect moment.  Grabbed my things and came home.  I then went to my basement and slept on and off for four hours.  I have NEVER done that!  I would wake up and literally did not have the strength to move. The worst part was I felt so sick that I missed date night with the hubby =(  He had a special night planned for my birthday and I had to cancel. SO SAD.

Which brings you up to today.  I definitely did not feel 100% however, I certainly felt better.  I knew my husband had something special planned for the day so I was determined to make the best of it. I couldn't eat much but it didn't matter because my day was special.

Sadly, now Jay wasn't feeling well, and he was "muddy".  When we came home he fell apart and was sick..like super sick.  Kyle came out to check on his Dad.  He told me "mama, Dada is sick, he needs a shower and a bucket with bubbles" which we proceeded to get.  Jay is still not doing well.  I am hoping it passes quickly, and I am hoping my chills and cramps were the worst of it for me.

So why did I share this sad, sick story?  Because of my son.  Because Kyle is 2 1/2 and has one of the best hearts.  And because somehow, somewhere in between the sickness, and the laundry, and the stench, and the exhaustion I found humor, and adorable moments.  I found love and memories.  OK maybe its weird.  Maybe I will only see it because I am a Mom. BUT what a lucky person I am to find some good in all this yuck =)

  1. I remember when I was so sick and preg with Sophia, Anytime I would run to the bathroom Emma would be one step behind me and she'd rub my back while I'd be getting sick. Emma is such a little mommy.
I had the flu when Sophia was just a few months old and if Soph dropped her pacifier or wanted her blanket or anything Emma was right there to help her to make sure that I didn't have to get up.
