PRE-K

OK, So Kyle is 3 and I know (even though it breaks my heart) that he needs to start pre-school in the fall.  I want him to go 2 days a week, in the morning.  I don't need day care, and I like having him home so even 2 hours in the morning really hurts my heart.

Ummmmm who knew finding and getting into a pre-school would be so damn hard?!?!?!  I guess I missed the chapter in the mommy handbook where it tells you in order to sign your child up for pre-school get him in the YEAR BEFORE!!!  Does everyone know to do that?  Please tell me I am not the only moron mommy who didn't know that.

Anyway, once I learned the hard way I was LATE (even though its spring) in signing him up I did what I could to find a pre school.  I emailed all the pre-schools in the area. Let me tell you; that is a feat in itself.  Weeding out which school is an actual pre-school vs. day care. Who knew there were such standards for 3 year olds.

Well, of all the schools I emailed I heard back from 4.  One was a three day a week full day minimum and more of a day care program.  A second was a 5 day a week program, and full day; which is not day care.  Look, I know education is important, and I really do want my children to grow into smart and hard working adults, but I don't feel it needs to start at age 3 for my little ones.  The third offered 2 days a week in the afternoon.  The fourth offered 3 days a week in the morning mon-weds (weird) and it was part of the public school program here in my town, but there was a waiting list.  Confused yet???

Seriously, what is a mommy to do?  So I went to my neighbor and had her ask her childrens pre-school teacher if there were any openings.  There were!!!

Kyle is officially enrolled in Happy Hours pre-school Tuesday and Thursday mornings 9-11:30.

It is different than what I imagined, but the teachers I met seemed incredibly nice and like they truly love what they do.

SO- there it is.  My baby boy is going to go to school. He is so excited.  He won't stop talking about all the new friends he is going to meet.  He is such a social butterfly.  He makes friends everywhere he goes.  When a group of 8 year olds walked by him when we were looking at the school he pointed and shouted "look Mom, FRIENDS"

Now you know mommy's get on the pre-school list now, but know if you missed the chapter on pre-school sign up like me it will somehow always work out.  Even if it breaks your heart and means he actually has to start school!

  1. Jackson is going to a PRE preschool next year (because he can't go to kindergarten until he's almost 6, what's the rush?). It's one morning a week and I have to go. So it's kind of like a glorified play group! :) But yes, I had no idea that it would be such a hassle and I was on the waiting list for about 9 months. The only reason I knew is because a friend of mine sends her daughter to school there and I knew that's where I wanted him to go. Seriously-how are we going to survive applying to college??
